HAS "LAW & ORDER" BEEN CANCELED?
It sounds like NBC has canceled "Law & Order" . . . the original series . . . and its final episode will air on May 24th. (--That's the 20th season finale.) --Multiple sites . . . including Deadline.com and E! Online . . . have had so-called "sources" confirm the news. NBC has not commented yet . . . but if it IS true, that means "Law & Order" will miss the chance to make history. --As it stands, "Law & Order" is tied with "Gunsmoke" for the distinction of TV's longest-running drama series. Both ran 20 seasons. (--"The Simpsons" is now the longest running scripted series overall, at 21 seasons and counting.) -So, if "Law & Order" got renewed for next year, it would break the record. But naturally, bringing it back isn't just a no-brainer. --"Law & Order" has been struggling in the ratings for several seasons, although this year it's averaging just under 8 million viewers, which isn't horrible considering it airs on Friday nights. But the show is very expensive to produce. --Earlier this year, NBC reportedly reached a deal with the show's creator, Dick Wolf, to bring the show back for one more, 13-episode season. Well, now that it's the biggest movie of all time, maybe we should listen when he says that 3-D will be EVERYWHERE within 25 years. --At a technology forum in South Korea, Cameron said that 3-D will be the norm in movies, TV and computers sooner than you think. --He said it could happen as early as, quote, "a couple of years . . . [and] definitely less than the 25 years it took color movies."
HAS "LAW & ORDER" BEEN CANCELED?
It sounds like NBC has canceled "Law & Order" . . . the original series . . . and its final episode will air on May 24th. (--That's the 20th season finale.) --Multiple sites . . . including Deadline.com and E! Online . . . have had so-called "sources" confirm the news. NBC has not commented yet . . . but if it IS true, that means "Law & Order" will miss the chance to make history. --As it stands, "Law & Order" is tied with "Gunsmoke" for the distinction of TV's longest-running drama series. Both ran 20 seasons. (--"The Simpsons" is now the longest running scripted series overall, at 21 seasons and counting.) -So, if "Law & Order" got renewed for next year, it would break the record. But naturally, bringing it back isn't just a no-brainer. --"Law & Order" has been struggling in the ratings for several seasons, although this year it's averaging just under 8 million viewers, which isn't horrible considering it airs on Friday nights. But the show is very expensive to produce. --Earlier this year, NBC reportedly reached a deal with the show's creator, Dick Wolf, to bring the show back for one more, 13-episode season. (--And publicly, NBC execs have been saying they'd like to see "Law & Order" break the record.) --But now, Deadline reports that Wolf is accusing NBC of "reneging" on that deal. A FOUL-MOUTHED "insider" says, quote, "He's so (effing) angry, you have no idea." --Despite all this though, it sounds like the two sides COULD still be negotiating . . . and if they're not, then there's a chance the show could move to TNT. But at least for now, it doesn't sound like that's in the works. --In a statement, TNT said, quote, "'Law & Order' has been a valuable programming asset for TNT. Currently, we have multiple seasons under license, up to and including Season 20. --"With this series, TNT is the buyer and NBC is the seller. TNT is not in ongoing discussions about picking up the series for first-run episodes." --Regardless of what happens, NBC is still expected to have "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and the new spin-off, "Law & Order: Los Angeles", on its primetime schedule for next year. (--That schedule will be announced next week.) (--"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" moved from NBC to the USA Network in 2007.)

A WOMAN'S TOUCH CAUSES GUYS TO TAKE MORE FINANCIAL RISKS:
Ladies . . . I really hate to arm you with this information, but the next time you want your man to buy you something expensive, all you have to do is TOUCH him. And it doesn't even have to be somewhere naughty. His arm or back will do just fine. --At least that's according to a new study from Columbia University and the University of Alberta in Canada. --Basically, researchers found that when a woman makes any kind of physical contact with a man, it causes him to take more financial risks than he normally would. --The theory is that when we're infants, we receive lots of physical affection from our mothers. That contact leads to a sense of security, which causes us to become more adventurous. --When we grow up, the principle still applies . . . only it extends to include ALL women, not just our mothers. It applies to investing and gambling. And, presumably, it applies to spending too. --A guy named Jonathan Levav co-led the study. He says, quote, "It's a very effective way of suddenly influencing people's behavior without them realizing they are being influenced . . . --"If you're a doctor, or are in sales, this is a form of communication you might want to keep in mind." Here's how I know . . . --On Wednesday, the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, installed the world's first GOLD VENDING MACHINE in its lobby. --The machine dispenses gold bars weighing one gram, five grams and ten grams, as well as gold coins. --According to an official for the company that makes the vending machine, quote, "This eliminates the risk premiums usually associated with precious metal trading." A TEACHER BEAT UP A 13-YEAR-OLD STUDENT, AND THE WHOLE THING WAS CAUGHT ON TAPE:
Now it's time to recognize our Teacher of the Day (I’m being sarcastic). . . 40-year-old Sherri Davis of Houston. --Two weeks ago, Sherri was teaching Phys Ed at a place called Jamie's House Charter School when a group of students started picking on a mentally challenged girl, and making fun of the way she was dancing. --When she noticed what was going on, Sherri singled out one student . . . 13-year-old Isaiah Johnson . . . and started BEATING him in front of everyone. And I do mean beating, as in dragging him across the floor, slapping his face and kicking him. --Fortunately, one of the students had their cell phone, and they managed to catch the entire incident on tape. --According to Isaiah's mom, Alesha, quote, "He's had a knot on his head for a week. He had a black eye, bruises on his cheek . . . I'm horrified. I just can't believe something like that would happen to my child." --On Monday, school officials fired Sherri, saying there's, quote, "no excuse for a teacher to behave in this way with a child." --Now Alesha's filed a lawsuit against the school for an unspecified amount of money. It accuses school officials of negligence, and attempting to cover up the incident.

THE MILITARY IS THINKING ABOUT GIVING OUT MEDALS FOR *NOT* FIGHTING THE ENEMY:
The U.S. military hands out medals for getting injured in the line of duty, and for extreme courageousness in war. And now they're also thinking about giving out medals for NOT fighting the enemy. --Okay, maybe that's not entirely true. Military officials say the medal would be awarded to soldiers in Afghanistan who show, quote, "courageous restraint" by holding fire to save civilian lives. --According to an official with the Air Force, quote, "Our young men and women display remarkable courage every day, including situations where they refrain from using lethal force, even at risk to themselves, in order to prevent possible harm to civilians. --"In some situations our forces face in Afghanistan, that restraint is an act of discipline and courage not much different than those seen in combat actions." --The United Nations estimates that more than 2,400 Afghani civilians were killed last year alone, although the actual number of civilian casualties is anyone's guess. HERE ARE TWO REASONS YOU SHOULD JUST LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE:
If you're the sort of person who's always changing the color and style of their hair . . . meaning if you're a WOMAN . . . I've got two pieces of bad news for you:
#1.) The first is that if you're constantly making dramatic changes to your hairstyle, it could mean you're trying to fill a void in your life, and you're using your hair as a way to express your inner conflict. --That's according to a psychotherapist named Heather Turgeon. --Although she qualifies it by saying that, quote, "Constant changes don't necessarily reflect inner conflict. It might mean that the person is interested in showing a different aspect of her personality."
#2.) What's worse is that according to researchers in the UK, women who frequently color their hair are 37% more likely to develop liver disease, including cirrhosis, than women who don't. --So you know, it's not entirely clear why women who color their hair are at higher risk of cirrhosis. But researchers say other studies have found a link between liver damage and certain chemicals usually found in cosmetics.

THE MILITARY IS THINKING ABOUT GIVING OUT MEDALS FOR *NOT* FIGHTING THE ENEMY:
The U.S. military hands out medals for getting injured in the line of duty, and for extreme courageousness in war. And now they're also thinking about giving out medals for NOT fighting the enemy. --Okay, maybe that's not entirely true. Military officials say the medal would be awarded to soldiers in Afghanistan who show, quote, "courageous restraint" by holding fire to save civilian lives. --According to an official with the Air Force, quote, "Our young men and women display remarkable courage every day, including situations where they refrain from using lethal force, even at risk to themselves, in order to prevent possible harm to civilians. --"In some situations our forces face in Afghanistan, that restraint is an act of discipline and courage not much different than those seen in combat actions." --The United Nations estimates that more than 2,400 Afghani civilians were killed last year alone, although the actual number of civilian casualties is anyone's guess. #2.) What's worse is that according to researchers in the UK, women who frequently color their hair are 37% more likely to develop liver disease, including cirrhosis, than women who don't. --So you know, it's not entirely clear why women who color their hair are at higher risk of cirrhosis. But researchers say other studies have found a link between liver damage and certain chemicals usually found in cosmetics.
