MEL GIBSON'S EX SAYS HE PUNCHED HER IN THE FACE AND KNOCKED OUT HER TEETH BACK IN JANUARY:
Back in May, MEL GIBSON split up with Oksana Grigorieva . . . who's the mother of his newborn daughter. And now, we finally know why. --Turns out, back in January, Mel and Oksana got into a BRAWL . . . with their newborn daughter IN THE MIDDLE. --There are a lot of he said-she said takes on exactly what happened, but here's what we know for sure. --On January 6th of this year, Oksana was playing with their daughter, Lucia, who was barely two months old at the time. Oksana and Mel got into a fight and Mel definitely made physical contact with Oksana. --And now . . . on to all the other VERY important details they disagree on. --According to Mel, he didn't mean to hit Oksana. His camp says that Oksana went CRAZY and was SHAKING the baby, quote, "like a ragdoll" . . . so Mel grabbed Oksana to stop her and protect Lucia. --According to Oksana, MEL's the one who went crazy, and he took a swing at her while she was holding Lucia. She says Mel punched her in the face and KNOCKED HER TEETH OUT. --Apparently, none of this came up in May when Mel and Oksana were at their custody settlement and ended up with joint legal custody over Lucia . . . or between January and March when they traveled to London and Paris together. --An anonymous source who's connected to the couple says that Oksana kept this quiet before because, quote, "She tried to protect his reputation, despite her fears of him and his verbal and physical abuse. --"She [now] regrets having believed in his empty promises to obtain professional help to control his violent nature." --On Friday, Lucia's lawyers filed for a restraining order against Mel. There were rumors that Mel's lawyers fired back by getting a restraining order against Oksana. --Lucia is now seven months old and living with Oksana. According to Oksana, quote, "[Mel] is not paying me a penny. I am having to live on credit cards and borrowed money . . . what he is doing is cruelty." --But, in spite of all of that, she says, quote, "I'm doing well and my daughter is doing great." --Mel and Oksana were only together a year before they split up. Mel hooked up with her after he was divorced from his wife Robyn after 30 years of marriage.
KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN'S BOYFRIEND GOT INTO A SHOUTING MATCH WITH A NEIGHBOR AND CALLED HER "DISGUSTING" AND A "WHALE":
There was another classy moment in the lives of the Kardashians on Friday. --KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN and her boyfriend, Scott Disick were outside of their home in Calabasas, California, when a neighbor started yelling at Scott about the way he'd parked on the street. And he went OFF on her. --Scott yelled back that he, Kourtney and their baby are moving out of the house because the neighbor is, quote, "disgusting." --Then, he kept going. Quote, "Look at you! You know I have to sell my house cheaper because of you? You're disgusting, I would kill myself if I looked like you, you whale . . . I'm perfect. You're so disgusting it makes me sick." --Someone called the police and they came out to calm things down . . . but no arrests were made, and no citations or warnings were even given out. --Scott has acknowledged several times in the past that he has serious anger issues that he needs to work on. JENNIFER CAPRIATI WAS HOSPITALIZED AFTER AN APPARENT OVERDOSE:
JENNIFER CAPRIATI has had some rough times since she became a professional tennis player at age 13 . . . and then started lashing out by shoplifting and messing around with marijuana. But this is DEFINITELY rock bottom. --Yesterday morning Jennifer . . . who's 34 years old now . . . was rushed to the hospital after an apparent drug overdose. She was at a hotel in Riviera Beach, Florida, at the time and was taken to a local hospital, where she's recovering. --There's no word on what kind of drugs she was taking when she ODed.
JEREMY LONDON TRIED TO CLAW HIS WAY UP A TREE ON THE NIGHT OF HIS KIDNAPPING:
Here's an amusing detail from JEREMY LONDON'S kidnapping that we haven't heard before. The desk clerk at the Ramada Inn where Jeremy stayed that night said that, after the kidnapping, Jeremy was outside, looking, quote, "tweaked out," trying to CLIMB A HUGE TREE. --Quote, "I looked outside [at two in the morning] and there's this grown man clawing his way up one of the trees. [He finally gave up] and came inside and said, 'Do you know who I am? I'm Jeremy London. I need a room.'"
MARK-PAUL GOSSELAAR AND HIS WIFE ARE NOW DIVORCED:
Somewhere, Mr. Belding weeps. The news is just breaking now but, back on June 18th, MARK-PAUL GOSSELAAR and his wife, Lisa Ann Russell (--not Turtle), got a divorce. They cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for splitting up. --They'd been married since 1996 and have two children, a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl. Mark-Paul is seeking joint custody of the kids.
DWYANE WADE AND HIS HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART ARE FINALLY DIVORCED:
As of Friday, DWYANE WADE and his wife, Siohvaughn Wade, are finally, officially divorced. They've been split up for a while now . . . and Dwyane's been swapping genitalia with GABRIELLE UNION . . . but the divorce wasn't final until last week. --Dwyane and Siohvaughn had been together since high school. They have two sons together, an eight-year-old and a three-year-old. --In February, Dwyane SUED Siohvaughn after she said he'd gotten HERPES through an affair and that he'd abandoned his children. --He says, quote, "I'm very relieved that the judge granted my divorce. This has been a long process . . . the most important thing to me right now is when the judge will decide on custody of our kids."
ON SATURDAY, MENA SUVARI WAS MARRIED IN VATICAN CITY:
MENA SUVARI has come a long way from lying around naked in "American Beauty" while KEVIN SPACEY fantasized about rose petals falling on her naughtiest areas. Over the weekend, she got married in one of the HOLIEST places on Earth. --On Saturday, Mena got married to a concert producer named Simone Sestito in a private church in VATICAN CITY. They chose to get married there because most of Simone's family lives in Italy. --They met at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007 and got engaged in 2008. She's 31, and he's a YOUNGER MAN, at 25.
NE-YO IS EXPECTING HIS FIRST CHILD AROUND NEW YEAR'S:
NE-YO has announced that he's expecting his first child. His girlfriend, Monyetta Shaw, is pregnant and due sometime in late December or early January. --Ne-Yo says, quote, "I'm 30 . . . and I am very, very, very excited about this. It's a New Year's baby. I'm just in a really good place right now."
JUSTIN BIEBER'S MOM *ISN'T* GOING TO POSE FOR "PLAYBOY":
Last week, we told you about some rumors that JUSTIN BIEBER'S 34-year-old mom, Pattie Lynn Mallette, had been offered $50,000 to pose topless for "Playboy". --Well . . . she shot down the rumors on Friday. Her lawyer says, quote, "Patricia is a born-again Christian. There is no truth that she would ever pose in 'Playboy' as it goes against her religion." And he added that no offer was ever made.
ALEX RODRIGUEZ SWEARS HE'S SINGLE . . . BUT WENT OUT VERY PUBLICLY WITH CAMERON DIAZ ON FRIDAY:
Apparently, ALEX RODRIGUEZ and CAMERON DIAZ are still making interracial love to each other . . . but that doesn't have to stop them from making interracial love to other people, too. --Last Thursday, A-Rod told a reporter from "Access Hollywood" that he's definitely SINGLE . . . NOT with Cameron Diaz. --But, the very next night, they were spotted having dinner and being all hugged up with each other at a restaurant called Soho House in West Hollywood, California. (--A-Rod and the Yankees were in L.A. for the weekend to play the Dodgers.)
JOE JACKSON FINALLY FILED A WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT AGAINST MICHAEL'S DOCTOR:
Friday was the one-year anniversary of MICHAEL JACKSON'S death and his father JOE JACKSON honored his son's memory exactly how you'd expect him to: By trying to squeeze more money out of this situation. --On Friday, Joe finally filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Michael's doctor, CONRAD MURRAY. --The lawsuit states that Murray's treatment was, quote, "below the standard of care and ultimately resulted in Jackson's overmedication and death on June 25th, 2009." --It also says Murray made conflicting statements to the police, lied to ER doctors about what medications he'd prescribed, and even had a security guard throw out some of Michael's drugs before they called 911 to report he wasn't breathing. --Joe filed the lawsuit in federal court. He couldn't file it in California because Dr. Murray's primary residence is in Nevada. Joe is looking for at least $75,000 in damages, which is the minimum in a federal case. --Murray's attorneys issued a statement in response to the lawsuit saying, quote, "We continue to maintain Doctor Murray neither prescribed or administered anything that should have killed Michael Jackson. --"We'd like to remind people that Murray has not been found guilty of anything and we believe his innocence will be proven in a court of law."
THE DOCTOR ACCUSED OF KILLING MICHAEL JACKSON CONTINUES SAVING LIVES:
DR. CONRAD MURRAY has been accused by many people of killing MICHAEL JACKSON by giving him dangerous prescriptions . . . then not telling the ER doctors about all the drugs which messed with their efforts to save Michael's life. --Well, now Dr. Murray is making a habit of saving people's lives. Last month, he saved a woman on a plane, and now . . . almost exactly one year after Michael died . . . Murray got to save a man's life. Sort of. --Last Thursday, 364 days after Michael's death, Murray got a call from one of his patients who lives in Las Vegas. The guy was complaining about chest pains. Murray said it seemed like a heart attack, so he told the guy to call 911 immediately. --The patient didn't want to, but Murray persisted . . . and, finally, the guy agreed to call for help. --And it's a good thing he did . . . it turned out it WAS a heart attack, and the doctors at Desert Springs Hospital in Vegas were able to place a stent in his heart and save his life. --Murray visited him in the hospital on Friday . . . on the one-year anniversary of Michael's death.
MICHAEL JACKSON'S FAMOUS SPARKLING GLOVE WAS SOLD AT AN AUCTION FOR $190,000:
Last week, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, there was a huge memorabilia auction for some iconic pieces of MICHAEL JACKSON merchandise. --The top item was Michael's famous glove that he wore on the Victory Tour . . . it's the glove that's covered in Swarovski crystals. The people running the auction expected it to sell for somewhere between $20,000 and $30,000. --Well . . . they were WAY off. The glove sold for $190,000. We don't know who the winning bidder was, though. --Michael's jacket from the cover of "Beat It" went for $132,000 and some loafers he wore on stage . . . and had autographed . . . sold for $90,000. --The auction was run by a company called Julien's and, besides the Michael stuff, they auctioned off memorabilia from tons of other musicians, too. --JIMI HENDRIX'S Fender Stratocaster guitar sold for $180,000 . . . one of ELVIS'S used guitar picks sold for $2,432 . . . and a bathrobe signed by R. KELLY went for $128.
ADAM SANDLER BEAT TOM CRUISE AT THE BOX OFFICE THIS WEEKEND . . . BUT "TOY STORY 3" IS STILL #1:
If there was any truth to the rumor that "Mission Impossible 4" might not get made if the new TOM CRUISE movie doesn't do well, then things aren't looking so hot.
--"Knight & Day" got embarrassed by only earning HALF of the $41 million that the new ADAM SANDLER movie made. Here are the Top 10 movies . . .

PETER JACKSON MAY ACTUALLY DIRECT "THE HOBBIT" AFTER ALL:
PETER JACKSON became one of the most famous directors ever by turning J.R.R. TOLKEIN'S "Lord of the Rings" books into a legendary movie trilogy. Sure, the process probably took 15 years off his life, but those movies were damn good. --And now . . . it looks like there's a chance he's going to be diving BACK into that world. Jackson is negotiating to direct two movies based off the book "The Hobbit" . . . which is a prequel to "Lord of the Rings" that was also written by Tolkein. --GUILLERMO DEL TORO WAS signed on to direct "The Hobbit" movies and Jackson was set to be an executive producer and one of the screenwriters. Del Toro stepped down last month, though, because of scheduling conflicts. --The two "Hobbit" films will be shot back-to-back in Jackson's home country of New Zealand. He shot all three "Lord of the Rings" back-to-back-to-back there also. --Other directors are still hoping to direct the "Hobbit" films. The two frontrunners are DAVID YATES, who directed "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", and NEILL BLOMKAMP, who directed "District 9". --The first of the "Hobbit" movies is set to be released some time in 2012. It will have a very reasonable budget somewhere around $300 MILLION.
THE LATEST ON "BACHELOR" JAKE PAVELKA'S *CRUSHING* SPLIT FROM VIENNA GIRARDI:
Since you're probably still REELING from the SHOCKING break-up of "Bachelor" JAKE PAVELKA and his now ex-fiancée VIENNA GIRARDI . . . here's the latest: --"Dancing with the Stars" minx EDYTA SLIWINSKA says that Vienna was JEALOUS of Jake's dancing partner, CHELSIE HIGHTOWER . . . even though, as far as she knows, no extracurricular activities were taking place. --Edyta says, quote, "They had a couple of fights about Chelsie . . . [but] I don't think [Jake and Chelsie] got along that well during the show, to be honest with you. I mean, they were all right, but I don't think there was that kind of chemistry between them." --And for the record, Edyta . . . like the rest of us . . . wasn't exactly floored that Jake and Vienna's "Bachelor" love didn't last. --She says, quote, "Come on! (--Gregory plays a gay frat guy named Grant on the ABC Family show, "Greek".) --He tells "Us" magazine, quote, "She made it very clear they were not together." --She was still wearing her engagement ring at the time, but Gregory says, quote, "She said it was for the show." Vienna has denied rumors that anything happened, and Gregory merely admits that he has a, quote, "fond affinity for her." --Either way, the word is that they just met two weeks ago. An insider says, quote, "[Vienna and Gregory] were all over each other . . . Vienna kept saying, 'I'm a smitten kitten,' and he would say, 'No, that's what I call you!'" (???)
JENNIFER HUDSON WILL ADDRESS HER FAMILY TRAGEDY ON VH1:
JENNIFER HUDSON will be "breaking her silence" on her horrific family tragedy in a "VH1 Behind the Music" special, which will premiere TONIGHT at 10:00 P.M. --Jennifer's mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew were shot and killed back in October of 2008. The murderer was the estranged husband of Jennifer's sister.
A BRIEF, SEMI-INTERESTING "DAYTIME EMMYS" RUNDOWN:
The 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards went down last night. --If you didn't watch it, chances are you couldn't care less what happened . . . but if you're in the minority, here's a quick, semi-interesting recap: --"The Bold & the Beautiful" won the Best Drama Series award for the second-straight year. It also took home Emmys for Best Younger Actor in a Drama Series (24-year-old Drew Tyler Bell) and Best Drama Series Writing Team. --But "As the World Turns" received more attention . . . mostly because its insane, 53-year run will be coming to an end this September. --It took home Emmys for Best Lead Actress (Maura West), Best Lead Actor (Michael Park) and Best Supporting Actress (Julie Pinson). --Elsewhere, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" won Best Entertainment Talk Show . . . and Mehmet Oz was awarded Best Talk Show Host. (--Ellen took herself out of the running for Best Talk Show Host this year.) --Also, the Emmy voters were ALL ABOUT "Cash Cab" this year. WILL.I.AM HAS TRASHED RUMORS THAT THE BLACK EYED PEAS ARE SPLITTING UP:
WILL.I.AM has DENIED a new rumor that the BLACK EYED PEAS are splitting up. -In a message posted on Twitter, he said, quote, "Don't believe gossip about Fergie leaving the group. We are never breaking up. It's all lies!!!" --On Friday, RadarOnline.com "reported" that Fergie wants out. --A so-called "source" told them, quote, "Fergie is saying she wants out of the band. […] Things have gotten really bad with Will.I.Am. And it's not just Fergie who is clashing with him. So is the rest of the band. His ego is out of control. --"Fergie just wants to get away from the whole thing." --And then there's this: The "source" added, quote, "She [also] really wants a baby with [her husband] Josh [Duhamel]. Between that and the bad blood with Will . . . she's saying she's going to split for good." --The Black Eyed Peas are touring North America this summer, and are currently planning on adding another leg early next year. Supposedly, Fergie is locked in for the summer dates . . . but isn't making a commitment for 2011. --Fergie hasn't commented on this.
MEAT LOAF HAS ALWAYS HATED THE NAME "MEAT LOAF":
In an interview with Britain's "Guardian" newspaper, MEAT LOAF revealed that he doesn't really like the name "Meat Loaf," and he's wanted to change it for 40 years. --When he was asked what his biggest challenge has been throughout his career, he said, quote, "My name. It works because people remember it, but it doesn't work because people don't take me seriously. It's like a Barnum & Bailey clown name. --"I've wanted to change it since 1972." (!!!) (--Meat Loaf has been using the stage name "Meat Loaf" since the late '60s . . . when he named his first band MEAT LOAF SOUL. And apparently, the name stuck. He was born MARVIN LEE ADAY.)
IS LOLLAPALOOZA BREAKING ANTITRUST LAWS?
"Rolling Stone" reports that officials in Illinois are looking into Lollapalooza . . . to determine if the festival is breaking antitrust laws. --Like a lot of music festivals, Lollapalooza has bands sign a "radius clause," which prevents them from playing near the festival . . . close to the date of the festival. But Lollapalooza's is pretty over the top. --Supposedly, Lollapalooza's contract clause prevents bands from playing within 300 MILES for 180 DAYS before the festival . . . and 90 days AFTER. That covers about NINE months . . . and technically, it applies to all 120 bands on the bill. --But as extreme as that is, several sources tell "Rolling Stone" that Lollapalooza regularly grants exceptions to the rule, especially to the smaller bands. --No one from Lollapalooza commented on the report.

This year's BET Awards aired last night, and unless you hold "BET Awards" in abnormally high regard . . . (???) . . . the show was all about the performances. --In addition to the previously announced returns of KANYE WEST, who was in a self-imposed, post-TAYLOR SWIFT hibernation . . . and T.I., who was in prison . . . there were several other notable highlights. --The one everyone is talking about is CHRIS BROWN'S tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON. (--Last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of his death.) --Chris performed a medley including "Smooth Criminal", "Billie Jean" and "The Way You Make Me Feel" . . . complete with some impressive, Michael-like dancing. --But when he began "Man in the Mirror" . . . This seems like one of those things that should have happened a long time ago, but the organization that coordinates how websites are named has finally decided to give the porno peddlers their own domain name. Not surprisingly, it's ".xxx." --It's not 100% official yet, and the domain wouldn't be available until early next year, but basically it means that adult sites would have .xxx at the end of their website name, instead of .com. The thing is, it's optional. --So, if you have .xxx at the end of your website, you HAVE to be a site with adult content. But if you're a site with adult content, you don't HAVE to have .xxx in your name . . . you can keep the .com. Got it? --I guess you could say there's some controversy over it, since some people think it gives the porno people online legitimacy by letting them have their own domain name. (--As if the internet isn't ALREADY synonymous with porno . . . please.) --But the adult industry isn't necessarily in love with the idea across the board either. Because it could lead to ALL porno sites being forced to adopt the triple-x domain . . . and then it would be a LOT easier for organizations to block ALL adult content. (CNN)
A GUY IN INDIA ACCIDENTALLY RECEIVED A BILL FOR HIS OWN CREMATION SERVICE . . . AND WAS SO SHOCKED THAT HE DIED OF A HEART ATTACK:
I know it's Monday, you don't feel like heading to work, and you're bummed the U.S. was eliminated from the World Cup by Ghana. (???) But there's a 70-year-old dairy farmer in India who'd like you to SHUT THE HELL UP. --Now, there isn't a TON of information available for this story, but what we DO have is so ridiculous, we have to share it with you . . . --The dairy farmer's name is Frail Than Singh, and we're not exactly sure where in India he lived. But recently, Frail received a strange bill. It was the receipt for a cremation service from the week before. To be more specific, it was for HIS cremation service. --Now, obviously the bill was a mistake, and just some sort of mix-up involving dates and names. But apparently, Frail wasn't in the best health to begin with. Because after receiving the receipt, he completely freaked out over the idea that he'd been cremated. --He started complaining about having chest pains . . . so his relatives rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he suffered a massive heart attack there, and died. --And as if that wasn't bizarre enough, according to the "Times of India", his body was then delivered to the SAME crematorium in northeastern India that accidentally sent him the letter in the first place.

ARE RE-USABLE SHOPPING BAGS BAD FOR YOU?
I hate to sound like one of those local TV news reports about THE TERRORS ALL AROUND US, but here goes: It turns out those environmentally-friendly re-usable shopping bags might be bad for your health. --You know the ones I'm talking about: They're made out of canvas or some other fabric, and people take them shopping so they won't need paper or plastic when they check out. --Well, according to a joint study by Loma Linda University and the University of Arizona . . . they can carry germs that are bad for your health. --The researchers tested 84 bags in Tucson, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and found that OVER HALF of them were contaminated with potentially harmful bacteria. --And 12% contained the bacteria E. coli, which can indicate the presence of FECAL MATTER and other nastier stuff. Although in this case, it was NON-FECAL E. coli that the researchers found. --But basically, under the right conditions, your dirty hippie bag COULD make you sick. --According to Charles Gerba, the professor who co-authored the study, quote, "A lot of people are not aware of the potential for the cross-contamination of food." In other words, the fact that you're re-using the bags is what makes them dangerous. --For example, if you bought raw meat, some of it could leak onto the fabric of your bag, and cause problems down the road. -And even if the package of meat you bought HASN'T leaked, it's possible that ANOTHER package leaked onto yours before you even put it in your bag. --As a precaution, Professor Gerba has a couple recommendations. First, when you use your reusable bag to carry raw meat, always wash it afterwards. (--What, and waste all that water? Never!) --And second, avoid storing your reusable bag in the trunk of your car, especially in the summer, since it's a dank, hot area that can become a breeding ground for germs. --And finally, if you're still wondering whether to ditch your re-usable fabric shopping bag and go back to paper or plastic, there's THIS: --Professor Gerba's study was funded by a $30,000 grant from the American Chemistry Council . . . the guys who represent companies who manufacture PLASTIC. ONLY 41% OF AMERICANS THINK HAVING CHILDREN IS IMPORTANT FOR A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE:
The Pew Research Center just did a big analysis of some census data . . . older data obviously, not this year's census . . . and they found some interesting stuff when it comes to women, marriage, and kids. --They looked at women who were quote, "beyond childbearing years." Basically, that means they analyzed 2008 census data for women between the ages of 40 and 44. Check out some of their findings . . . --About 1 in 5 American women has never given birth, since fewer couples . . . especially higher-educated white couples . . . see having children as necessary for a good marriage. --About 20% of white women are childless, compared with 17% of black and Hispanic women, and 16% of Asian women. --Overall, about 17% of U.S. women were childless at age 40, compared to 22% in England, 17% in Italy and Ireland, and between 12% and 14% for Spain, Belgium, and Sweden. --Overall, only 41% said that children were important for a successful marriage . . . but 38% said that the increasing trend of marriages without kids is BAD for society. --Higher-educated women are more likely to be childless . . . but childlessness has risen for women with less than a high school diploma, from 9% in 1994 to 15% in 2008. --Women now outnumber men in the workforce, and are equally represented when it comes to advanced degrees. --And finally . . . minority babies now make up nearly half of all U.S. births, and minorities are projected to become the majority by mid-century.(Associated Press)

Supposedly, child welfare officers have visited the family home twice, and the baby received a hospital drug evaluation. --But according to the kid's mother, it was all just a joke. While the series may be over now that “Shrek Forever After” has been released, the folks at Dreamworks are working on “Puss In Boots,” a spin-off featuring Antonio Banderas’ character in “Shrek.” The actors are currently doing their voice-overs. Paired alongside Banderas in the film will be Salma Hayek playing the character of Kitty, who will presumably become a love interest. Dreamworks has launched the film’s homepage, and while the main page features a close-up of Puss’ face, clicking on “Read The Story” reveals what Kitty looks like. The site also reveals that the story will follow Puss, Kitty and Humpty Dumpty (played by Zach Galifianakis) as they try and steal the goose that dropped the golden egg. “Puss in Boots” will hit theaters November 4, 2011.
Cybercriminals Kick Off World Cup With Online Scams
Soccer fans are a big target for cyber crooks. Spam related to the FIFA 2010 World Cup has soared 27% since April, according to Symantec’s Norton anti-virus software. The company has identified numerous scams, phishing sites and malicious spam related to the world’s largest sporting event. Other online threats related to the 2010 World Cup include offers of fake game tickets, videos purportedly showing highlights of the games that infect your computer with malware, and bogus FIFA product offers. Symantec has also seen an increase in phishing scams, malicious attachments and “419 scams” (aka Advance-fee frauds) to target unsuspecting fans. As the competition progresses towards the final match in July, Symantec expect World Cup-related spam and scams to increase.

July 4th Travel
AAA has projected the number of Americans traveling this Fourth of July holiday weekend will increase 17.1% from 2009, with approximately 34.9 million travelers taking a trip at least 50 miles away from home. Trips by automobile are expected to increase in popularity, with 90% of travelers, or 31.4 million people, reaching their destination by auto. AAA expects the national average price of self-serve regular gasoline to be $2.70-$2.80 per gallon. Leisure air travel also is expected to grow slightly, with 1.56 million holiday flyers expected. Car rental rates will average $54 per day, a 4% increase over last year. AAA has also been seeing double digit percentage increases in bookings for vacation packages, cruises, and hotels.
Back in May, MEL GIBSON split up with Oksana Grigorieva . . . who's the mother of his newborn daughter. And now, we finally know why. --Turns out, back in January, Mel and Oksana got into a BRAWL . . . with their newborn daughter IN THE MIDDLE. --There are a lot of he said-she said takes on exactly what happened, but here's what we know for sure. --On January 6th of this year, Oksana was playing with their daughter, Lucia, who was barely two months old at the time. There were rumors that Mel's lawyers fired back by getting a restraining order against Oksana. --Lucia is now seven months old and living with Oksana. According to Oksana, quote, "[Mel] is not paying me a penny. I am having to live on credit cards and borrowed money . . . what he is doing is cruelty." --But, in spite of all of that, she says, quote, "I'm doing well and my daughter is doing great." --Mel and Oksana were only together a year before they split up. JOE JACKSON FINALLY FILED A WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT AGAINST MICHAEL'S DOCTOR:
Friday was the one-year anniversary of MICHAEL JACKSON'S death and his father JOE JACKSON honored his son's memory exactly how you'd expect him to: By trying to squeeze more money out of this situation. --On Friday, Joe finally filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Michael's doctor, CONRAD MURRAY. --The lawsuit states that Murray's treatment was, quote, "below the standard of care and ultimately resulted in Jackson's overmedication and death on June 25th, 2009." --It also says Murray made conflicting statements to the police, lied to ER doctors about what medications he'd prescribed, and even had a security guard throw out some of Michael's drugs before they called 911 to report he wasn't breathing. --Joe filed the lawsuit in federal court. He couldn't file it in California because Dr. Murray's primary residence is in Nevada. Joe is looking for at least $75,000 in damages, which is the minimum in a federal case. --Murray's attorneys issued a statement in response to the lawsuit saying, quote, "We continue to maintain Doctor Murray neither prescribed or administered anything that should have killed Michael Jackson. --"We'd like to remind people that Murray has not been found guilty of anything and we believe his innocence will be proven in a court of law."
THE DOCTOR ACCUSED OF KILLING MICHAEL JACKSON CONTINUES SAVING LIVES:
DR. CONRAD MURRAY has been accused by many people of killing MICHAEL JACKSON by giving him dangerous prescriptions . . . then not telling the ER doctors about all the drugs which messed with their efforts to save Michael's life. --Well, now Dr. Murray is making a habit of saving people's lives. Last month, he saved a woman on a plane, and now . . . almost exactly one year after Michael died . . . Murray got to save a man's life. Sort of. --Last Thursday, 364 days after Michael's death, Murray got a call from one of his patients who lives in Las Vegas. The guy was complaining about chest pains. Murray said it seemed like a heart attack, so he told the guy to call 911 immediately. --The patient didn't want to, but Murray persisted . . . and, finally, the guy agreed to call for help. --And it's a good thing he did . . . it turned out it WAS a heart attack, and the doctors at Desert Springs Hospital in Vegas were able to place a stent in his heart and save his life. --Murray visited him in the hospital on Friday . . . on the one-year anniversary of Michael's death.
MICHAEL JACKSON'S FAMOUS SPARKLING GLOVE WAS SOLD AT AN AUCTION FOR $190,000:
Last week, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, there was a huge memorabilia auction for some iconic pieces of MICHAEL JACKSON merchandise. --The top item was Michael's famous glove that he wore on the Victory Tour . . . it's the glove that's covered in Swarovski crystals. The people running the auction expected it to sell for somewhere between $20,000 and $30,000. --Well . . . they were WAY off. The glove sold for $190,000. PETER JACKSON MAY ACTUALLY DIRECT "THE HOBBIT" AFTER ALL:
PETER JACKSON became one of the most famous directors ever by turning J.R.R. TOLKEIN'S "Lord of the Rings" books into a legendary movie trilogy. Sure, the process probably took 15 years off his life, but those movies were damn good. --And now . . . it looks like there's a chance he's going to be diving BACK into that world. Jackson is negotiating to direct two movies based off the book "The Hobbit" . . . which is a prequel to "Lord of the Rings" that was also written by Tolkein. --GUILLERMO DEL TORO WAS signed on to direct "The Hobbit" movies and Jackson was set to be an executive producer and one of the screenwriters. Del Toro stepped down last month, though, because of scheduling conflicts. --The two "Hobbit" films will be shot back-to-back in Jackson's home country of New Zealand. He shot all three "Lord of the Rings" back-to-back-to-back there also. --Other directors are still hoping to direct the "Hobbit" films. The two frontrunners are DAVID YATES, who directed "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", and NEILL BLOMKAMP, who directed "District 9". --The first of the "Hobbit" movies is set to be released some time in 2012. It will have a very reasonable budget somewhere around $300 MILLION.

Since you're probably still REELING from the SHOCKING break-up of "Bachelor" JAKE PAVELKA and his now ex-fiancée VIENNA GIRARDI . . . here's the latest: --"Dancing with the Stars" minx EDYTA SLIWINSKA says that Vienna was JEALOUS of Jake's dancing partner, CHELSIE HIGHTOWER . . . even though, as far as she knows, no extracurricular activities were taking place. --Edyta says, quote, "They had a couple of fights about Chelsie . . . JENNIFER HUDSON will be "breaking her silence" on her horrific family tragedy in a "VH1 Behind the Music" special, which will premiere TONIGHT at 10:00 P.M. --Jennifer's mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew were shot and killed back in October of 2008. The murderer was the estranged husband of Jennifer's sister.
A BRIEF, SEMI-INTERESTING "DAYTIME EMMYS" RUNDOWN:
The 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards went down last night. --If you didn't watch it, chances are you couldn't care less what happened . . . but if you're in the minority, here's a quick, semi-interesting recap: --"The Bold & the Beautiful" won the Best Drama Series award for the second-straight year. It also took home Emmys for Best Younger Actor in a Drama Series (24-year-old Drew Tyler Bell) and Best Drama Series Writing Team. --But "As the World Turns" received more attention . . . mostly because its insane, 53-year run will be coming to an end this September. --It took home Emmys for Best Lead Actress (Maura West), Best Lead Actor (Michael Park) and Best Supporting Actress (Julie Pinson). --Elsewhere, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" won Best Entertainment Talk Show . . . and Mehmet Oz was awarded Best Talk Show Host. WILL.I.AM has DENIED a new rumor that the BLACK EYED PEAS are splitting up. -In a message posted on Twitter, he said, quote, "Don't believe gossip about Fergie leaving the group. We are never breaking up. It's all lies!!!" --On Friday, RadarOnline.com "reported" that Fergie wants out. --A so-called "source" told them, quote, "Fergie is saying she wants out of the band. […] Things have gotten really bad with Will.I.Am. And it's not just Fergie who is clashing with him. So is the rest of the band. His ego is out of control. --"Fergie just wants to get away from the whole thing." --And then there's this: The "source" added, quote, "She [also] really wants a baby with [her husband] Josh [Duhamel]. Between that and the bad blood with Will . . . she's saying she's going to split for good." --The Black Eyed Peas are touring North America this summer, and are currently planning on adding another leg early next year. Supposedly, Fergie is locked in for the summer dates . . . but isn't making a commitment for 2011. --Fergie hasn't commented on this.
MEAT LOAF HAS ALWAYS HATED THE NAME "MEAT LOAF":
In an interview with Britain's "Guardian" newspaper, MEAT LOAF revealed that he doesn't really like the name "Meat Loaf," and he's wanted to change it for 40 years. --When he was asked what his biggest challenge has been throughout his career, he said, quote, "My name. It works because people remember it, but it doesn't work because people don't take me seriously. It's like a Barnum & Bailey clown name. --"I've wanted to change it since 1972." (!!!) (--Meat Loaf has been using the stage name "Meat Loaf" since the late '60s . . . when he named his first band MEAT LOAF SOUL. And apparently, the name stuck. He was born MARVIN LEE ADAY.)
IS LOLLAPALOOZA BREAKING ANTITRUST LAWS?
"Rolling Stone" reports that officials in Illinois are looking into Lollapalooza . . . to determine if the festival is breaking antitrust laws. --Like a lot of music festivals, Lollapalooza has bands sign a "radius clause," which prevents them from playing near the festival . . . close to the date of the festival. But Lollapalooza's is pretty over the top. --Supposedly, Lollapalooza's contract clause prevents bands from playing within 300 MILES for 180 DAYS before the festival . . . and 90 days AFTER. That covers about NINE months . . . and technically, it applies to all 120 bands on the bill. --But as extreme as that is, several sources tell "Rolling Stone" that Lollapalooza regularly grants exceptions to the rule, especially to the smaller bands. --No one from Lollapalooza commented on the report.

This year's BET Awards aired last night, and unless you hold "BET Awards" in abnormally high regard . . . (???) . . . the show was all about the performances. --In addition to the previously announced returns of KANYE WEST, who was in a self-imposed, post-TAYLOR SWIFT hibernation . . . and T.I., who was in prison . . . there were several other notable highlights. --The one everyone is talking about is CHRIS BROWN'S tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON. (--Last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of his death.) --Chris performed a medley including "Smooth Criminal", "Billie Jean" and "The Way You Make Me Feel" . . . complete with some impressive, Michael-like dancing. --But when he began "Man in the Mirror" . . . Chris lost it. He began crying, and struggled to make his way through it. (--Some people aren't buying it, but either way, it was quite the performance. You can watch it, here . . .)

PORNO SITES NOW HAVE THEIR OWN DOMAIN NAME:
This seems like one of those things that should have happened a long time ago, but the organization that coordinates how websites are named has finally decided to give the porno peddlers their own domain name. Not surprisingly, it's ".xxx." --It's not 100% official yet, and the domain wouldn't be available until early next year, but basically it means that adult sites would have .xxx at the end of their website name, instead of .com. The thing is, it's optional. --So, if you have .xxx at the end of your website, you HAVE to be a site with adult content. But if you're a site with adult content, you don't HAVE to have .xxx in your name . . . you can keep the .com. Got it? --I guess you could say there's some controversy over it, since some people think it gives the porno people online legitimacy by letting them have their own domain name. (--As if the internet isn't ALREADY synonymous with porno . . . please.) --But the adult industry isn't necessarily in love with the idea across the board either. Because it could lead to ALL porno sites being forced to adopt the triple-x domain . . . and then it would be a LOT easier for organizations to block ALL adult content. (CNN)
A GUY IN INDIA ACCIDENTALLY RECEIVED A BILL FOR HIS OWN CREMATION SERVICE . . . AND WAS SO SHOCKED THAT HE DIED OF A HEART ATTACK:
I know it's Monday, you don't feel like heading to work, and you're bummed the U.S. was eliminated from the World Cup by Ghana. (???) But there's a 70-year-old dairy farmer in India who'd like you to SHUT THE HELL UP. --Now, there isn't a TON of information available for this story, but what we DO have is so ridiculous, we have to share it with you . . . --The dairy farmer's name is Frail Than Singh, and we're not exactly sure where in India he lived. But recently, Frail received a strange bill. It was the receipt for a cremation service from the week before. To be more specific, it was for HIS cremation service. --Now, obviously the bill was a mistake, and just some sort of mix-up involving dates and names. But apparently, Frail wasn't in the best health to begin with. Because after receiving the receipt, he completely freaked out over the idea that he'd been cremated. --He started complaining about having chest pains . . . so his relatives rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he suffered a massive heart attack there, and died. --And as if that wasn't bizarre enough, according to the "Times of India", his body was then delivered to the SAME crematorium in northeastern India that accidentally sent him the letter in the first place.

ARE RE-USABLE SHOPPING BAGS BAD FOR YOU?
I hate to sound like one of those local TV news reports about THE TERRORS ALL AROUND US, but here goes: It turns out those environmentally-friendly re-usable shopping bags might be bad for your health. --You know the ones I'm talking about: They're made out of canvas or some other fabric, and people take them shopping so they won't need paper or plastic when they check out. --Well, according to a joint study by Loma Linda University and the University of Arizona . . . they can carry germs that are bad for your health. --The researchers tested 84 bags in Tucson, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and found that OVER HALF of them were contaminated with potentially harmful bacteria. --And 12% contained the bacteria E. coli, which can indicate the presence of FECAL MATTER and other nastier stuff. Although in this case, it was NON-FECAL E. coli that the researchers found. --But basically, under the right conditions, your dirty hippie bag COULD make you sick. --According to Charles Gerba, the professor who co-authored the study, quote, "A lot of people are not aware of the potential for the cross-contamination of food." In other words, the fact that you're re-using the bags is what makes them dangerous. --For example, if you bought raw meat, some of it could leak onto the fabric of your bag, and cause problems down the road. -And even if the package of meat you bought HASN'T leaked, it's possible that ANOTHER package leaked onto yours before you even put it in your bag. --As a precaution, Professor Gerba has a couple recommendations. First, when you use your reusable bag to carry raw meat, always wash it afterwards. (--What, and waste all that water? Never!) --And second, avoid storing your reusable bag in the trunk of your car, especially in the summer, since it's a dank, hot area that can become a breeding ground for germs. --And finally, if you're still wondering whether to ditch your re-usable fabric shopping bag and go back to paper or plastic, there's THIS: --Professor Gerba's study was funded by a $30,000 grant from the American Chemistry Council . . . the guys who represent companies who manufacture PLASTIC. (The Arizona Republic) (--Although, in all fairness, a lot of those re-usable grocery bags are woven out of a plastic resin that's also made by the chemical industry. Aren't you glad we cleared that up for you?)
ONLY 41% OF AMERICANS THINK HAVING CHILDREN IS IMPORTANT FOR A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE:
The Pew Research Center just did a big analysis of some census data . . . older data obviously, not this year's census . . . and they found some interesting stuff when it comes to women, marriage, and kids. --They looked at women who were quote, "beyond childbearing years." Basically, that means they analyzed 2008 census data for women between the ages of 40 and 44. Check out some of their findings . . . --About 1 in 5 American women has never given birth, since fewer couples . . . especially higher-educated white couples . . . see having children as necessary for a good marriage. --About 20% of white women are childless, compared with 17% of black and Hispanic women, and 16% of Asian women. --Overall, about 17% of U.S. women were childless at age 40, compared to 22% in England, 17% in Italy and Ireland, and between 12% and 14% for Spain, Belgium, and Sweden. --Overall, only 41% said that children were important for a successful marriage . . . but 38% said that the increasing trend of marriages without kids is BAD for society. --Higher-educated women are more likely to be childless . . . but childlessness has risen for women with less than a high school diploma, from 9% in 1994 to 15% in 2008. --Women now outnumber men in the workforce, and are equally represented when it comes to advanced degrees. --And finally . . . minority babies now make up nearly half of all U.S. births, and minorities are projected to become the majority by mid-century.(Associated Press)

Whether you like it or not. Got it? --That brings me to our 'Clueless Teenage Mother of the Day.' Her name hasn't been released, but she lives in Florida, has an 11-month-old baby boy, and recently posted a Facebook photo of him toking on a BONG. --The photo shows the happy little guy sitting on the floor, with a big green bong between his legs. He's got his left hand around the neck . . . his right hand reaching for the bowl . . . and his mouth over the mouthpiece. (!!!) --The kid's face is blurred in the photo, but it's not clear whether the mom did that before she posted it on Facebook . . . or if someone else did it when they sent the photo to WJXT Channel 4, in Jacksonville, Florida. --Anyway, the station did a story, got the Florida Department of Children and Families involved, and they launched an investigation. Supposedly, child welfare officers have visited the family home twice, and the baby received a hospital drug evaluation. --But according to the kid's mother, it was all just a joke. In a Facebook message to the news station, she wrote, quote, "If u look at the picture u can see that there is no bowl in the [TOBACCO] pipe . . . I would never ever ever let him get high." (NineMSN)

You know how Google Maps has that 'Street View' feature? It's the thing where you click on an address, and see a photo of it from ground level. And then you can move the camera view up and down the street, as if you're moving. --Anyway, people like to mess with the Google car when it's driving around and filming the street view shots, and some of the photos make it onto the site. --And sometimes the Google car just captures people doing weird stuff that they were already doing. FIVE FOODS THAT MAKE YOU TIRED:
Caffeine wakes you up, but there's a lot of stuff in your diet that does the exact opposite. Here are five foods that make you tired . . .
#1.) ANYTHING HIGH IN SUGAR. When you're tired half way through the day, don't eat a candy bar. Sugar gives you a quick jolt of energy, but your body metabolizes it instantly. And once it does, you feel even MORE tired.
#2.) ANYTHING HIGH IN FAT. It's kind of the opposite of sugar. Eating a steak DOES give you energy, but it doesn't give you much of an energy BOOST because it takes your body a long time to metabolize all the fat in red meat. --Fish and chicken are better if you're feeling tired.
#3.) ANYTHING WITH TRYPTOPHAN. When you hear the word tryptophan, the first thing you think of is Thanksgiving turkey. But a lot of people forget that even a turkey SANDWICH has tryptophan in it. --And so do a lot of other foods. The most common are: milk, corn, and brown rice.
#4.) TOO MUCH CAFFEINE. It makes you tired because it interferes with your sleep. Caffeine can make it tough to fall asleep even if you drink a cup of coffee 12 HOURS before bed. --And even when you DO fall asleep, too much caffeine makes you tired the next day because it screws with your REM sleep.

While the series may be over now that “Shrek Forever After” has been released, the folks at Dreamworks are working on “Puss In Boots,” a spin-off featuring Antonio Banderas’ character in “Shrek.” The actors are currently doing their voice-overs. Paired alongside Banderas in the film will be Salma Hayek playing the character of Kitty, who will presumably become a love interest. Dreamworks has launched the film’s homepage, and while the main page features a close-up of Puss’ face, clicking on “Read The Story” reveals what Kitty looks like. The site also reveals that the story will follow Puss, Kitty and Humpty Dumpty (played by Zach Galifianakis) as they try and steal the goose that dropped the golden egg. “Puss in Boots” will hit theaters November 4, 2011.
Cybercriminals Kick Off World Cup With Online Scams
Soccer fans are a big target for cyber crooks. Spam related to the FIFA 2010 World Cup has soared 27% since April, according to Symantec’s Norton anti-virus software. The company has identified numerous scams, phishing sites and malicious spam related to the world’s largest sporting event. Other online threats related to the 2010 World Cup include offers of fake game tickets, videos purportedly showing highlights of the games that infect your computer with malware, and bogus FIFA product offers. Symantec has also seen an increase in phishing scams, malicious attachments and “419 scams” (aka Advance-fee frauds) to target unsuspecting fans. As the competition progresses towards the final match in July, Symantec expect World Cup-related spam and scams to increase.

July 4th Travel
AAA has projected the number of Americans traveling this Fourth of July holiday weekend will increase 17.1% from 2009, with approximately 34.9 million travelers taking a trip at least 50 miles away from home. Trips by automobile are expected to increase in popularity, with 90% of travelers, or 31.4 million people, reaching their destination by auto. AAA expects the national average price of self-serve regular gasoline to be $2.70-$2.80 per gallon. Leisure air travel also is expected to grow slightly, with 1.56 million holiday flyers expected. Car rental rates will average $54 per day, a 4% increase over last year. AAA has also been seeing double digit percentage increases in bookings for vacation packages, cruises, and hotels.
