HOW ARE YOU FEELING?
I just heard a new term and it really struck a cord with me . . . so I wanted to throw it your way and see if you have the same reaction.
The word is "cyberchondriac." It means people who use websites like Google and WebMD to try and self-diagnose medical conditions, but end up mistaking minor conditions . . . like headaches . . . for major ones . . . like brain tumors.
(--In case you haven't already figured it out, "cyberchondriac" is a play on the word "hypochondriac" . . . which is someone who is constantly worried that they're deathly ill, even if medical evidence suggests otherwise.)
OTHER FACTS YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING:
--A study last year found that ONE in every 50 search engine queries . . . is health-related.
--Overall, ONE in FOUR people have used the Internet to try and self-diagnose a medical problem. (Houston Press)
